coke vs pepsi

Most people seem to have a preference between Coke and Pepsi. I used to think I did too. When I was growing up I thought I liked Coke (and Dr. Pepper) the most of all soft drinks. For a period after I graduated college I determined that maybe I liked Pepsi more. Now I think it is a draw.

I think that I have mentioned before that I get free pop at work. For lunch I usually have a cola (either Coke or Pepsi) which I pick based on what I am thirsty for. I had noticed that I would go through periods where I wanted Coke and periods where I wanted Pepsi, and I couldn't make sense of my changing tastes.

After much soul searching I found a correlation with what I am craving and what is available to me in my home fridge. When Golden has stocked the kitchen with Coke, I drink Pepsi at work. When Golden has purchased Pepsi, I drink Coke.

When I was growing up, I craved Coke because my mom bought more Pepsi than Coke. She bought no Dr. Pepper, so that made me think I liked it the most. Golden has gone through Coke and Pepsi periods, and during an extended time when she got mostly Coke, I had determined I liked Pepsi more. Now I know that my cravings are based more on the theory of the grass being greener on the other side than on my actual tastes. It kind of makes me question a lot of the preferences I think I have. Maybe I am not the person I think I am.

In otherwards, you don't mind a little variety in your world of drinking pop. Coke is my favorite, but they are all good, and when we do buy pop we go for what is the cheapest.

Interesting theory, have you tested it on other things yet to see if it holds true to your other likes and dislikes? Does this mean once a tv show goes off the air you are more likely to like it because it's not available now? What about lunch meat? Do you prefer bologna when you have ham and roast beef when you have turkey, but when you have bolgna you like turkey and when you have roast beef you like ham?

Are green eggs something that you like? :) :) :) :)

How does this work with chips? and Cookies? and okay, I'll stop now! :) :)

Don't tell anyone - but I prefer Pepsi with Chineese food. I have no rational justification for this - and I'm ashamed every time I drink it.

She's got a good point.

If you have only one option at home but are offered different options elsewhere. I too would try different options. I like variety.

There is nothing strange about that.

I prefer red cream soda with BBQ.

Funny, how a potentially mundane discovery can make you look at other things and begin to question...felt that way some about the psyc test that said we were naive. Wait a minute!

We don't keep soda at home much, so don't have that theory to balance. Over here, I've noticed the soda products are much sweeter tasting. I drink diet so I don't know about the calories being different but distinctly different taste than at home. Love and hardly ever buy Diet A & W. (Can't get that here, bet I'll be drinking a lot when I get back.)

Dust definitely likes variety! I usually have 3 to 4 different types of cereal on hand. I don't mind eating the same kind of cereal every day for a week.

I have kept Coke in the fridge more frequently as of late. Dust's mom is a Pepsi addict.

I was off caffeine for awhile a couple of years ago. I ordered a large Sprite at a restaurant and was brought a large Mr. Pibb by mistake. That big icy buzzy-brown sugary sweetness caused me to fall off the wagon for awhile. I was pretty loyal to Pibb. My mom drinks Coke and my Dad drinks Pepsi... that way my Dad doesn't drink all of it.

Yeah, in my family...it's about 1/2 and 1/2. The coke people are more outspoken then the Pepsi people in my family. Wonder if that's typical? The Pepsi people quietly drink their soda and live life letting us Coke people tell them how wrong they are that Coke rules! And pretty much whatever else we want to tell them!

Dash, you can't honestly say you like Pepsi can you? I mean that watered down stuff you get at restaurants doesn't really count does it? Traitor!

I was never a big soda fan. My mom loved flavored sodas and all I would drink growing up was A & W rootbeer. I was brand loyal then too...the others just weren't the same. Now it's Diet Coke, or an occasional IBC rootbeer just for fun. I have expanded to Fresca too. I can't stand lemon or lime flavored sodas but the grapefruit one I liked...go figure!?

Wow T, I always thought the exact opposite about the Coke/Pepsi people. Coke was always the norm - the given amoung people. so it was a silent majority and it was the pepsi people always trying to prove their worth.

I do know that the Coke people make their protest known at restaruants that only serves pepsi products. "Is Pepsi okay?" said apologetically by the waitress. "No, I'll have a Dr. Pepper."

It's not so much "proving" your worth...it's KNOWing your worth! :)

OMG...I missed this yesterday!

I was an adamant COKE fan growing up. I did the "Pepsi Taste Challenge" back in the 80's and I KNOW I chose Coke...but they switched the cups...lol! (Actually, I stood away from the stand and watched them switch it...maybe that is where I caught the Marketing Research/Advertising bug)

For most of college and after college, I was a Diet Coke fan. Yes, they used to tease me about having a DIET Coke with my candybar.

Then when I was pregnant, the doctors told me to stay away from the Diet drinks...and it was better to drink the straight stuff...so I switched to Coke Classic.

During my marriage, my husband refused to let me buy Coke products (because of his vendetta he was on at the time) and only allowed me to purchase Pepsi products. Well, I countered that with buying Coke classic with my Mary Kay money...so he couldn't dictate to me...lol!

Then while working retail, I switched to Pepsi, because that is what they had in the vending machine. It was only $1.00 in the machine and if I bought Coke from the store, I had to pay tax...and get a manager to ring me out and sign my receipt...so it was a hassle to buy a Coke.

I stayed on a Pepsi kick for quite awhile. But the hospital served Coke last summer...so I switched back.

Besides, when I brought Pepsi to T's house...I thought she was going to throw me out to sleep on the street!!!! ;) J/K!
